Frida Kahlo Portrait by M.Devine

When I taught high school art, next to my students, I loved teaching about famous painters. One of my favorites was and is Frida Kahlo because she had such a colorful, happy, sad and interesting life, which she was able to translate to her art-sometimes in ways that made me sad, sometimes in ways that were very joyous. So here is a little new painting of her, acrylic on canvas. You can find my portraits at

Marsh Waterway

Okay, so growing up in Louisiana, they called these weekend retreats CAMPS, and in Texas, they are known as LAKEHOUSES, in the Carolinas, they are in the LOW COUNTRY, or COASTAL areas. As a child in Louisiana, I used to love to go visit Mississippi, near Pass Christian, and they really did look just like this! Wherever they are, you know it is going to be a good day when you look out the window and see WATER!

Hill Country Hay Bales Orig. Oil Painting

Hill Country Hay Bales. I painted this after taking some photos
at DUSK in the Hill Country of Texas. I loved the way
the hay bales looked like they were glowing, and the long
shadows.

Speckled Trout Impasto OIl Painting

This is a 24" wide by 12" tall impressionist Speckled Trout. Oil. Colorful.
Blah, blah, blah.

Okay, so here's the thing. According to the blog "STATS" I'm supposed to
believe that there are people from pretty much all over the world viewing my work. Now. Daily.  Lots of Russians; which is cool, but what does that even mean?  And so far I have had just a teeny weeny bit of feedback on this site.
So if you are reading this, and you can speak English or Spanish, Russian, or whatever, it would be very cool
if you would just let me know you stopped by. Join the blog.  Tell me you love it. Tell me you hate it. Tell me it is
so boring you are just neutral on it. Just SAY SOMETHING.
Thanks : )

This oil painting is called Low Country Marsh. I worked from
two photos to paint this, and wanted to use lots of greens and
yellow ochre. Just a hint of blue in the water and the sky, very
painterly. Painted on artist wood panel, 1" wood sides.

Shady Patio Courtyard Oil Painting

This is a painting from a beautiful courtyard I saw while walking around the small
streets of South Beach, Miami. Like so many of the small courtyards,
it was very lush a and kind of reminded me of
New Orleans. Really love the coral color of the chairs and the warm
golds mixed with the cool colors of the plants and sky.
Gallery wrapped canvas, 8" x 10" with sides painted light gray, frame not needed but would look
great with a medium Black or Brown Wood frame.

Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, Our Lady of Guadalupe

When Juan Diego had a vision on a hill in Mexico, he asked for a sign to prove it. When he came back to the mountain, it was covered in Castillian roses, in winter, roses which do not normally grow in the Tepeyac desert, near Mexico City. The lady in the vision asked him to build a church where they stood on the hill. So this little painting is also covered in roses and is a whimsical version of the Virgin of Guadalupe. It is painted on gallery wrapped canvas and the sides have been painted black. I usually sell these larger and without so much detail, this is a new design and I hope you like it. There is a cross under the banner which reads, "Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe" in Spanish, which means Our Lady of Guadalupe. There are so many interesting things about Our Lady of Guadalupe, just Google her name and you will see.

After the Storm Oil Painting

Okay, so you know that old saying, "After the Storm" -well that had to be the perfect name for this painting. I went with my family to the beach this spring, and it rained the entire drive. After two days of POURING RAIN, we went outside and it was just the most spectacular contrast of colors. Really dark outlines against an almost neutral sky. I knew I had to paint it, so I did one to keep to remember that beautiful day, then I did a couple of small ones, and now we have a Medium size oil painting that gives an IMPRESSION of that day. This has TONS OF THICK IMPASTO oil paint, and LOTS of BRUSHWORK!
Hope you love this.  To Purchase, go to www.recycledwoodart.etsy.com

Small Low Country Oil Painting

This painting is very small, only 5" x 7" When I first started
painting, in high school, my teacher had me work on small canvas boards
this same size. One was entered in the high school art competition, won Best
of Show, and was STOLEN. My teacher found the "thief" - made her
return the painting to me, and I was so embarrassed. I told her she
gave me a compliment by stealing it, and so it was all good : )

Blue Marlin Painting

This is a large painting called "Blue Marlin" My sister and I have done quite
a few marlins on wood, but this one is painting on a large 18" x 36" wrapped canvas, lots

crazy about that Taxi Cab yellow color right now. Especially when
it's next to blue! If you are interested you can purchase
